Very quickly, children start doodling and coloring for fun, but not only that. Drawing and coloring can have perceptual, emotional, and cognitive dimensions. This is exactly what the Montessori method teaches us. In all of our daycare centers in Luxembourg, we provide children with access to coloring materials. Let’s discover the many benefits of this practice!

Coloring and drawing to grow

Through coloring games, the child stimulates their concentration and focuses their attention on their project. They choose their pencil, their color, and direct their attention to one goal. Furthermore, drawing also helps develop fine motor skills as the child works on their dexterity by coloring. The older the child is, the more organized the traces left will be, making it possible to keep an eye on the child's development.

Favorite colors have meaning

Often, when a child starts coloring pictures, they develop preferences for the colors they use. And it turns out that colors can reveal certain personality traits. A lot of blue on the coloring pages indicates a calm and sensitive personality. Yellow symbolizes happiness and humor. Green expresses a flexible personality, while red may indicate anger or anxiety. Black reveals a rather secretive character, and purple suggests a tendency to have difficulty making choices.

The shapes to colour are endless

To the great delight of little ones (and adults), the shapes to color are numerous. Animals, characters, flowers, houses... everything is possible, and a whole world opens up to the child! The child can choose the theme they prefer: a cat, a superhero, a butterfly, a fish, a Christmas tree for winter, dragons, dinosaurs, beautiful snowmen, flowers... The possibilities are endless, and the choice they make is theirs!
