When should I enroll my child in a nursery?

Do you want to enroll your child in a nursery in Luxembourg. For this, several childcare options are available to you: a collective nursery, childminders or parental assistants as well as other alternatives.

You will find all the addresses and procedures with the early childhood service of your municipality of residence.

In which reception structures can I enroll my child?

To have your child looked after in a collective reception structure, you can choose between:

- A nursery approved by the State

All towns offer municipal nursery services. These are reserved as a priority for the inhabitants of the municipality and for households where both parents work.

For children of school age, you can access the relay houses. This collective reception offers a childcare service outside school hours and, sometimes, a canteen service.

In the city of Luxembourg, the foyers scolaire offer the same type of services to children enrolled in basic education from 3 to 12 years old.

The relay houses and school hostels also welcome children during school holidays.

- A private nursery

Two-thirds of the nursery places available in Luxembourg are in private nurserys.

Le network of nurseries KidsCare allows you to find a guard adapted to your needs. You can choose a private nursery near your home or near your job.

Nursery prices vary according to the files: the income of the family home and the number of dependent children.

- If you do not wish to enroll your child in a collective reception structure, you can then turn to a parental assistant, a nanny or an au pair.

When should I enroll my child in a nursery?

To obtain a place in a nursery for your child, we advise you to register your child as soon as possible.

You can, for example, enroll your child in a nursery during your maternity leave. But the first registration steps can even be taken during pregnancy, at the end of the first trimester, with valid proof of pregnancy.

Places in municipal nurserys are more difficult to obtain. Indeed, they are limited and are subject to certain priorities. The social context of the parents is studied.

In addition, children in need of more specific care have priority access to it. This is the case, for example, of children with disabilities or seriously behind in school.

We therefore advise you to allow a fairly long period of time between registration and the allocation of a place for your child.

As municipal nurserys are managed by the early childhood department of the town hall, you will have to turn to the latter to begin the registration process. Some registration files can be downloaded directly from your municipality's website.

You can update your file after the birth of your child by providing a birth certificate.

If you don't get a place right away, you will be placed on a waiting list that is updated regularly throughout the year.

To obtain a place in a private nursery, you can also enroll your child during pregnancy. Our teams KidsCare accompany you for the various stages between the pre-registration and the reception of your child for his first day in the places.

Contact one of our advisors today. A first visit to the chosen nursery will be organised, even if your child is not yet born.

We then finalize the registration file. After the birth, you will provide us with a birth certificate in order to update this file. You will then be able to choose a date for the entry into nursery of your baby from the age of two months.

A week of familiarization will be established in order to welcome your child step by step and at their own pace. He will be surrounded by the educators of the nursery and the manager.

Our nurserys and day centers welcome children from two months to 12 years old. Don't wait any longer to enroll your child in one of our establishments KidsCare.
