Pedagogical currents in our nurserys KidsCare

What are the different types of pedagogies?

The learning of children in our nurseries in Luxembourg is part of several pedagogical currents: pedagogies Pikler-Montessori and multilingualism.

This educational content is applied daily in our nurserys at many levels and in different forms: care, games, motor skills, etc.

Pedagogy Montessori

The pedagogical approach montessorienne is based on the work of Maria Montessori, first Italian doctor.

María Rosal (Fernán‐Núñez, Córdoba, 1961) is a complete writer. She has published children's theatre, has received the Andalusian Critics' Award (2004), the Children's Poetry Award (2007) and the José Hierro National Poetry Award for Carmín rojo sangre (2015). Her poetic work has been translated into English, Italian and Greek.

This is her second book for children in edebé, after the funniest title, El secreto de las patatas fritas.

Maria has a very funny sense of humour. Montessori identified very clearly different major sensitive periods in children from birth to 6 years:

 • Language between two months and 6 years
 • The order from birth to 6 years
 • Coordination of movements between 18 months and 4 years
 • Refinement of the senses from 18 months to 5 years
 • Very small objects during the 2nd year
 • Social behavior between 2 and 6 years old

Educators supervising children should pay attention to these processes and provide children with related activities. Their role is to develop learning related to the emergence of these periods. Thus, children learn simply, naturally and independently.

Pedagogical differentiation can be set up for children of the same age group.

Marie Montessori also enhances babies' free motor skills. The nursery must therefore offer them a suitable environment for exploring and discovering while guaranteeing the your children's safety

Finally, the approach Montessori highlights the link with nature and outdoor outings. Our nurserys therefore offer daily outings and outdoor play areas.

Piklerian pedagogy

The Piklerian pedagogy practiced in our nurserys and reception systems KidsCare is inspired by Emmi's theory Pikler, Hungarian pediatrician. emmi Pikler puts the child at the center of all his thoughts.

His work is based on the free motor skills of babies. The spaces are therefore arranged and secured to allow them to evolve and move freely. It is important that babies are not placed in a position in which they do not put themselves: sitting, prone, standing.

Another important aspect of the Piklerian pedagogical approach is the quality of the relationship. The child receives special attention during the moments of care: changing, meals, siesta. A quality relationship is an essential emotional base to allow the good development of the child. The latter will feel sufficiently safe to then independently approach activities outside of care.

The activities offered in our nurserys are therefore adapted to the needs and skills of the children according to their age. The children are thus never put in a situation of too great difficulty which would make them lose confidence in themselves. In addition, in order to make them more secure, time markers are established. The children then know, in advance, what will happen during the day.

The plurilingual pedagogical approach

Early childhood is conducive to learning new languages. Based on this observation, the government has set up a multilingual education program for children aged 1 to 4 years.

Thus, since September 2017, nurseries KidsCare develop multilingual educational tools in French, Luxembourgish and English.

This learning is done on a daily basis and in a fun way. The nursery must not become a school class. The educator does not place himself in a teacher's approach with objectives and evaluations.

Learning moments are organized in a slightly more formal way by reading stories, nursery rhymes, language exchange. But most language learning is done informally through games, mealtimes, or everyday life.

Finally, we highlight the multiculturalism of our educational staff and children's families on a daily basis.

Why highlight these different types of pedagogy?

These pedagogies have opened up important knowledge to us and have proven themselves for the development of children. We seek the best for accompany your children and allow them to grow well.

In our nurserys, the adult remains in his place and positions himself as a benevolent educator who does not force or impose.

Development varies from child to child. There is no comparison or competition. We know that a child never learns better than at their own pace and by taking the time.

Our educational staff KidsCare is therefore trained in these pedagogies to allow children to learn spontaneously and independently, whatever their age. We give each child self-esteem so that he then enters the education system confidently.
