Are we a private or public nursery, and what is the difference between a private or public nursery?

Creche KidsCare Merl - Longwy

KidsCare is a network of nurseries in Luxembourg. Our nurserys and day centers are private. They are based on pedagogies Pikler et Montessori and offer many nursery services.

Find out the difference between public and private nurserys to make the best choice for your child.

Public nurserys

Public nurserys are managed by the early childhood service of the municipality of your commune of residence.

Children can be accommodated there until they enter basic education. The educational team that supervises them is qualified and trained for early childhood.

Each structure has its own management specificities and its own environment.

Crib sizes also differ. Some nurserys are called “micro nurserys” because they only accommodate around ten children at the same time. A community nursery can accommodate up to 60 children. But most municipal nurserys have a workforce of around XNUMX to XNUMX children separated into several age groups. We find there the group of babies, the group of medium and the group of adults who are doing their last year of nursery.

Places in public nurserys are more difficult to obtain because there are fewer places there. Priority is given to families with a difficult social, financial and family background. Children with disabilities or in great difficulty are also considered priority.

If no place is available in public establishments in your municipality, you will be placed on a waiting list until a place becomes available.

We therefore advise you to anticipate your child's nursery registration well in advance. You can do this from the end of the first trimester of pregnancy (except some towns which only accept from the 6th month).

The costs charged in public nurserys depend on your income and the number of dependent children in the household. Each file is therefore studied on a case-by-case basis.

Private nurserys

Two-thirds of the places in nurserys in Luxembourg are in private nurseries, i.e. 17 places. You can go to any private nursery and not just those in your municipality of residence. We advise you to choose one either close to your home or close to your place of work.

Private nurserys must obtain the same authorizations as municipal nurserys. pedagogical quality and child safety are therefore present.

However, each nursery is free to operate and organize itself. Some will therefore operate by age groups, others will prefer mixed spaces so that each age learns from the others.

You will find different types of pedagogy in private nurserys, which will allow you to choose the one closest to your sensitivity as parents. In Luxembourg, we find many nurserys Montessori focused on the development of the child and his free motor skills.

Private nurserys have very long time slots. They are therefore easily compatible with a demanding or atypical professional life. They are ideal for organizing the right balance between family life and work.

Finally, you can enroll your child throughout the year. No need to wait for a commission date or the start of the school year. He will be welcomed in a personalized way in our premises.
